Famous Quotes and Quips about Homemaking

Hey, how are you doing sweeties?

Homemaking has been going on since the beginning of time — maybe it was called “cavemaking” in prehistoric times! But the objective was the same. Many famous (and sometimes funny) people have had a lot to say about homemaking and housekeeping over the years. Here are a few of my favorite quotes and quips:

Quotes From Famous Personalities

The late Erma Bombeck said:

My second favorite household chore is ironing. My first being hitting my head on the top bunk bed until I faint.

Phyllis Diller wrote in Phyllis Diller’s Housekeeping Hints (published in 1966):

Cleaning your house while your kids are still growing is like shoveling the walk before it stops snowing.

Comedienne and actress Roseanne Barr said:

I’m not going to vacuum until Sears makes one you can ride on.

Well-known funny man Dave Barry says:

The obvious and fair solution to the housework problem is to let men do the housework for, say, the next 6,000 years, to even things up. The trouble is that men, over the years, have developed an inflated notion of the importance of everything they do, so that before long they would turn housework into just as much of a charade as business is now. They would hire secretaries and buy computers and fly off to housework conferences in Bermuda, but they’d never clean anything.

That’s right! Housewives with or without children have always felt a little lonely in their household tasks. Fortunately today some mentalities have changed and men want to be more present in their home life.

Quotes From People Just Like You And Me

There are a lot of anonymous homemaking quotes. Just a few of my favorites are:

This house is protected by killer dust bunnies.”

God made rainy days so gardeners could get the housework done.”

If the shelves are dusty and the pots don’t shine, it’s because I have better things to do with my time.

They’re sure housework won’t kill you, but why take the risk?

The true sentiments are expressed best by Nancie J. Carmody, who said:

I am thankful for a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing, because it means I have a home….I am thankful for the piles of laundry and ironing because it means my loved ones are nearby.”

You see being a housewife with or without kids is given to everyone. Whether you’re famous or not, we can all go through the same adventures and have the same questions.
